Supermoon 3/19/2011 - Emmett Idaho Photographer

A photographer's dream......a huge, bright moon. Or so I thought. Emmett's skies were filled with thick clouds so I missed the beautiful orange full moon that I was longing to see. I pretty much gave up the idea of photographing the supermoon; until I started to see a beam of light coming from outside my window. Finally! The clouds started to clear and I was able to see this beaming white full moon in the sky. So I broke out the camera again, set-up outside and started to shoot.

Ugh...I was not liking anything. This moon was sooooooo bright that the glow was just as bright as the moon itself so all I was getting was a bright blob. It was so bright that you'd swear I was shooting into the sun (just without any flare). I was just about to give up again, until some thin clouds started rolling in and something told me to keep shooting.

I'm so glad I listened to my "inner self" and kept shooting just a little bit longer........

I'm seeing stars.......... - Emmett, Idaho Photographer

Today I helped a friend work on her calendar for an awesome non-profit cause. We had some good laughs over how "particular" I am (she calls it "being anal", I call it "being particular"). I just like uniformity on certain things; that's all.

After quite a few hours later, we were finished and I walked her and her daughter outside to her car and looked out at the bright moon. It was beautiful! Not quite a full moon, but pretty close. We had slight clouds over the moon giving it such a beautiful glow of colors and the stars were brightly shining as well. So I said my goodbyes to them and rushed back in the house to grab my camera and tripod.

I turned off all the lights outside and shut the curtains to the house (heaven forbid the family goes without lights for just a few dang minutes so I can get a good shot). Good things the curtains are nice and thick ;)

Unfortunately I don't live in an open field or on a desolate road where there's no light at all around me, and I didn't have time to get in the car and drive to the river (darn....that would have been an awesome shot!). So I had to deal with my surroundings and take what I could take from my open back yard porch.

If anyone is a constellation buff, can you tell me what the star constellation is on the right on these photos?

Christina is one of those girls that all photographers love. She had all the moves, looks, style, and attitude down. She was game for whatever I wanted her to do including climbing things, sitting on the wet ground, laying on dirt in her prom dress, and more. I literally could not take a bad shot of her. We started out with the weather not being too bad; soft clouds with barely any sprinkling going on. Then it soon started to rain heavily on us. We took cover under some stairs and in the cars but soon the rain parted and we were able to get some beautiful sunshine. Then the clouds came rolling in again. So we called it quits and decided to finish her session the following weekend (good thing too because we had much better weather the following weekend!).

Carmen came across my photography when viewing her friend Madisen's Senior Portraits. I loved that she had her own ideas for her portraits and was really excited to get her portraits taken.

Carmen is a phenomenal artist. She brought a few samples of her artistic work and I was in awe of her talent. I even got to watch her paint too (but I'm not going to show those pics). She has such a beautiful smile that lights up even more than normal when talking about her painting.

I have been horrible this month! The last post was on the 1st?!!! Awww man I'm WAY behind.

Life has been good to me this month. I've been keeping very busy. I went to training for Relay For Life in the middle of the month and the spirit of it all was very catching. I'm stoked about being a volunteer for the 2011 Gem Relay For Life and can't wait to get started with signing up teams and getting them stoked for an awesome Relay. Been really busy working on the Gem County Calendar too. I was asked to lend my design skills (which I really didn't think I had) to create the 2011 Gem Calendar showcasing all the winners of the monthly facebook photo contests. It's turning out pretty cool and I'm having fun creating it. Lots of hard work for a great community.

Speaking of community....Emmett is truly an awesome place to live. I've lived in "family friendly" communities before but this place is tops in my world. This community really comes together and everyone helps each other out. I am truly blessed that my life has taken me to this town.

Time keeps flying away from me so this is the end of my quick note. My apologies for not keeping up this month. November's special is underway and that'll be announced soon. And November will be filled with postings...I promise!

I have been involved with the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life for a few years now and each year just amazes me with such inspiration. I was honored to be asked to photograph this year's Gem County Relay For Life at Emmett City Park.

With this heat wave we are having it sure doesn't seem like it should be fall, let alone start thinking ahead to Christmas. 9/11 was a very sad day for me this year. I personally don't know anyone that lost their life on the 9/11 attacks but it's still a day of remembering for me. Each year I pray for those lost and their families.

Well this year hit me even harder. My Aunt lost her battle on breast cancer. She was diagnosed over 10 years ago and immediately chose to fight it. She did what she had to do and rocked the battle for many years. There are two people that I Relay for (American Cancer Society Relay For Life) and Melanie was one (my Dad is the other). Aunt Melanie gave me inspiration each and every time I saw her and I admired her fight to live. As you read, her fight was cut short. So I will be traveling to California to be with family and to attend her funeral.

Patricia, Middleton High Class of 2011 - Middleton, Idaho Senior Photographer

I love my clients! They refer me to all their friends and family! And this is how I met Patricia. She contacted me immediately after Karen had hers taken and her photos were uploaded onto facebook.

Patricia has the coolest family friends. She had 2 friends that offered their houses and surroundings to us specifically for her shoot (now that's some good friends!). Right in the beginning of shooting we were interrupted by mother nature. There were dragonflies all over the pond and one finally landed and stayed long enough for me to focus and capture this awesome shot

OK...back to Patricia. Patricia is a beautiful girl. She was shy at first but after about 5 or 6 shots she finally let go of that shyness and was laughing it up for the rest of her session.

I love to shoot seniors that are open to my quarky way of seeing something and telling them that I want to shoot them with it. That's what happened with Patricia and a barrel. There was an old barrel laying on its side. It looked like it had been there for years and was full of spider webs and dirt. When I showed Patricia the barrel she looked at me weird but trusted me. This is what came of that weird barrel.

Then there was the hay bales and the camaro and the tire swing that we saw and of course just HAD to get some shots.

Don't you just love her pink heels? I loved how they contrasted perfectly with the pristine blue camaro!

I am so proud of Patricia too. Patricia is a young mother and has managed to take such great care of her son all while staying in school and is going to graduate on time with her class. That takes alot of discipline and hard work and I'm proud that Patricia is so focused and determined. Michael (Patricia's 9 month old son) is so cute. He was just starting to try to take his first steps but would give up and crawl instead so I captured a few shots with Patricia and her son.

Rain rain go away.....but let the rainbows stay! - Emmett, Idaho Photographer

I was sitting on the living room couch working on a Sudoku game when a bright light caught my eye. It wasn't a flash of light, it was a constant bright light and it was bugging me. So I take a look out the window and my eyes about bulged out of my head.

I run downstairs, grab the camera, slip on my shoes the best I could not caring that they weren't completely on but enough so my socks and feet don't get wet from the rain soaked cement, and start photographing.

OH MY GOODNESS.....the most brightest and gorgeous rainbow! Then I see the second rainbow above the bright one. A double rainbow!! And it's right above my house!!!!

(I absolutely love how the above shot tricks the eye to believe that the colors of the rainbow are dripping as it keeps raining)

Today was a first for me - Emmett, Idaho Senior Photographer

Today was a first for me in my photography business. I've been photographing High School Seniors for quite some time now and I've shot them with lots of "props". From the class ring to their car to climbing a silo to the railroad tracks, but today was a first for me shooting a senior with her horse.

I was nervous at first. At least I admit it! I'm not nervous around horses, as a matter of fact I really love them. I always wanted one {{insert here in a whiny voice "Daddy, I want a pony for Christmas."}}. I was just nervous because I've never photographed a horse up close and I personally don't have experience with a horse and know their behaviors. I went into the shoot with a plan, but Ria (Chyenne's horse) had plans of her own. She didn't want to cooperate right from the start. She wasn't bucking or anything like that, she just didn't want to be photographed showing her beautiful mane and then she didn't want to go into the water. I think it was more of that the rocks probably wasn't the best stability for her than the water being chilly; but what do I know?

I was able to capture some beautiful shots with Chyenne and Ria and will share those much later when Chyenne has her other sessions that'll take place next month. But I just had to share with you this great shot of Ria giving Chyenne a hug........

Brittany had sent in an application to me to become a Senior Rep right after she saw my ad in the Emmett High yearbook. After reading her app I realized that we had alot in common and knew that she was the right person for the "job".

When we met for her consultation, I had asked her about her racing. Her face just lit up like a Christmas tree. This beautiful, young lady has a passion beyond belief for racing her sprint car PLUS her dirt bike.

Brittany is such a fun girl to be around. I was raised around racing so we "talked shop" alot. She was up to anything that I wanted to do; which of course makes my job so much easier. At first she was a little shy being in front of the camera, but she warmed up to it quickly.....especially after I got her into the water!

HAVE YOU SEEN THOSE EYES??!!!! No, they aren't colored contacts....those are her real eye color. I'm jealous!!

We took a break in between locations to drop off her trailer with her dirt bike on it and her little brother saw us. He was staring at us through the window and I turned and got a picture of him. He didn't like it and let me know it. So Brittany's Mom let him come out with us to see what the commotion was and I was able to bribe him to like me with some candy. I always have lollipops and Smarties candy in my camera bag ;) He finally liked me and wanted to have his picture taken with his big sis.

First Day of School - {Emmett, ID Photographer}

Well, summer is officially over. Today is my son's first day of school. He's been preparing himself by going to bed early and waking up early for the past couple of weeks, but it still didn't really sink in for him til he actually walked out that door with his backpack on. It didn't really hit me either.....my baby is growing up {{insert rolling eyes from my son when I say that outloud}}.

No pictures; my son is "too old" for that. He's in the 8th grade now. I haven't been "allowed" to take pictures of my son on his first day of school since he went into the 4th grade :( Just another reality check for me that my son is growing up WAY too fast for me.

He lucked out this year. His school schedule is really awesome! He got a big locker this year (which really helps with all the binders and books and backpack and his jacket in the winter) and got the electives that he wanted and the time of day that he wanted them as well. Like I said, he lucked out.

Well, I'm off to have breakfast all by myself now..........

Frequently Asked Questions:

How does a mini session differ from a regular portrait session?

Mini sessions are 25 minute sessions at a predetermined location and offered on a limited number of specific dates throughout the year. Regular portrait sessions are 1-2 hours, at any location of the client’s choice, and offered at any available time throughout the year.

How do I reserve a session?

Sessions are reserved on a first come, first serve basis. Please contact me to check availability and how to secure your date! A non-refundable deposit of $75 is required to reserve your session date. This deposit includes payment for the Candy Cane Collection. You may upgrade to one of the other collections at the time you order. All mini sessions are subject to Idaho’s 6% sales tax.

What if it rains or the weather is bad on the day of the mini session?

If the weather is bad, we will reschedule for a date as soon as possible after the session date that is agreeable by both parties.

What size are gift prints?

Gift Prints are available in your choice of: 8×10, 5×7, or 4×6.

What are brag books?

Brag Books are accordion style magnetized books showcasing a few of your favorite images from your session. They are the perfect size as a stocking stuffer and fit nicely in a purse. Perfect for showing off to friends and family or on your desk at work.

I offer an array of pre-designed holiday cards (that are customizable). Holiday cards are available in lustre or glossy. Holiday cards are perfect sized 5x7 so not only do they go to your family and friends as a card, they can be framed and double as a gift. All holiday cards come with white envelopes.

I have been anticipating the day when my Phat Strap would arrive and it came today. I'm sooooooo happy. It is so beautiful!!! Exactly what I wanted! The strap isn't too wide like the standard one that is included with your camera purchase. Phat Straps are ideal in that not only do you get a really thick and well constructed strap, you can really customize it to your liking. I added a mink hot pink lining on my strap because well, it goes with the design I chose and because I liked the thought of added comfort for those really long shoots I sometimes have. Of course I had it embroidered with "Barbara Walker Photography" matching the aqua that's in my logo. Ya, it doesn't exactly "stand out" persay, but I really like it!

I haven't even told you the best part yet!! IT'S LONG!!!! I have been trying to get my hands on a comfortable strap that is long enough to go on one shoulder and across my body and rests the camera body on my hip. I don't like the full vest straps so those were out of the question. The ones I have found aren't comfortable (it dug in the neck); returned that one, aren't long enough to fit my plus size body and large boobs; returned a couple of those that I tried, and was around a $250 or higher purchase; didn't even buy those because they were just outrageously expensive in my opinion. Phat Straps was priced very affordable even with all the add-ons that I wanted and it's just an awesome strap! I recommend all my fellow photographers (professional and enthusiasts) to check them out (and no, they aren't paying me to endorse their products...this is truly my personal opinion on their product).

Not only do they have camera straps, but they also have guitar straps, ipad storage cases, lens storage bags, and a few other items too. And their fabric themes are just phenomenal! WIDE selection of looks....you'll have a hard time narrowing them down to 1 favorite, I guarantee it.

Madisen, Emmett High School Class of 2011 - Emmett Idaho Senior Photographer

Madisen is such a sweet and loving young woman. When we met for her consultation she was soooo shy and I assured her that we'd have lots of fun.

A week later was her shooting session and we met at a local park and her shyness went away, her smile lit up her face and her guard was down. Now it was time to really have some fun!

I've been told that Madisen rocks the Oboe (musical instrument for those that don't know), so I asked her to bring it. I LOVE this photo!!

Madisen loves her pugs with a passion and has the most clever names for them; Biscuit & Gravy.

Right after the above photo was taken we started to pack up and head to our next location but mother nature had something to say to us; clouds started to roll in quickly and were really dark and then we heard it....thunder. Oh nooooo. We decided to call it a night because we didn't want to get rained on nor get struck by lightning.

A few days later we tried again. Beautiful day, no clouds, not too hot, really just a perfect day for us.

Last but not least, Madisen was game for some real excitement. She told me that she was game to get wet so I took her to the river. She charged in that water like it was warm Hawaiian water. Such an awesome and brave girl!

Karen, Emmett High Class of 2011 - Emmett Idaho Senior Photographer

Karen is a beautiful girl that absolutely loves the camera....and the camera loves her. She is full of spunk and has such a fun spirit.

I moved to Idaho a little over a year ago and got lost one day on my way to the Nampa Costco (totally missed a turn!). I ended up coming across this awesome bridge and just wanted to photograph on it someday. Well, for the past year I have been trying to find that bridge (figures, I'd find it when I was lost! LOL). Somehow this bridge came up in topic with Karen and her boyfriend Cole (see his Senior Portraits here) and they both knew the bridge that I was talking about. OMG!!!! YES!!!!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!

The funnest part of shooting at the bridge was stopping traffic. LOL We had to stop traffic (only a couple of cars) a few times so we could shoot in the middle of the bridge and against the sides of the bridge. The people in the cars didn't mind (well at least I don't think they did since we didn't get any glaring looks nor yelled at).

We headed just below the bridge and there were some huge boulders and I had her lay back on them. I bet they were the most uncomfortable things to lay on, but beauty is pain ;)

We started to head back to Emmett and stopped off in Middleton to shoot on the little bridge and Cole & Karen played on the swings. Then we came across an abandoned shop that had an awesome green wall. So we detoured over to the wall. Coming closer to home I decided to check out the winery that's on Hwy 16 and soon realized that there was a wedding that was about to go on. Ooops. I didn't want to totally crash the wedding so we just shot in one area and quickly left (the guests didn't see us....only the groom and his groomsmen and they were fooling around themselves).

After I graduate I want to go for a road trip to the Golden Coast, drive all the way down Highway 1 stopping at all the cool beaches along the way with my best friend, Tabetha, and my man, Cole. Oh, then I'm gong to BSU to be a civil engineer. That's important too :)

My dream job is being a civil engineer in an area with a lot of water and getting to design appealing bridges that people who drive or walk them will remember for years to come.

Dead or alive, who would you like to meet and why? I would meet Jared Padalecki because he is an amazing actor and one FINE AND TASTY piece of man pie. And I would meet Walt Disney because he is the true inspiration for my art and an amazing role model.

I love Barbara Walker Photography because when someone gets photographed for the first time, it’s awkward. However, Barbara makes the “awkwardness” disappear because of her bubbly attitude, her unique style, and her obvious passion for her job. Butterfly At Rest Cross-Stitching Project - Emmett Idaho Photographer

Now that the All Is Vanity project is completed and sent to my friend, I have started another cross-stitching project. This one has a bit of history to it. See, many years ago (no kidding, like over 6 or 7 years ago) I started this same cross-stitch pattern for my best friend Janet. She had seen the progress of it here and there and anxiously awaited its completion. Fast forward to my moving to Idaho........I lost it. Yes...I lost the more than halfway done cross-stitching project for my best friend. I kept searching and searching in boxes and cabinets for it while I working on the All Is Vanity project but alas it was lost. :( I promised Janet that once I was done with the All Is Vanity that I'd re-start her Butterfly At Rest and she'd have it soon (secretly hoping by Christmas 2010).

So I started working on this beautiful project. It's a nice transition using lots of beautiful colors now as opposed to the black & white & gray tones from the All Is Vanity.

I started the Butterfly At Rest Project in May (don't remember the exact date, but I know it was towards the beginning of May). It killed me to start with a clean slate again knowing how far I had been on it before, but alas it is for my best friend of over 20 years so she's worth it!!

Starting with a clean slate.....

As of May 28, 2010 I had completed almost 1/6th of this beautiful project....

Now take a look at it. June 28th and I'm practically 1/3 done with it (minus the outlining/backstitching). It's starting to take beautiful shape now and check out the colors!!! P.S. Sorry for the glaring TV screen behind the canvas.

Mother Nature is not liking me today - Emmett Idaho Senior Photographer

Today was an extremely hot day. And I mean HOT!!! I think at one time I saw the weather temperature gauge thing that I have read 111 degrees. Now that's HOT! I knew that I had a Senior Photo Shoot scheduled in the early evening so I just kind of took a "chill day" to relax and drink nothing but iced tea all day...ok ok and some Diet Pepsi too. 6:30pm came around and the sun is shining through some clouds. No biggie, it's cooler so I'm happy and I like shooting under clouds (it's what photographers call "nature's soft box"). I meet-up with my client and her mother and we start shooting. All is good, everything is flowing greatly and then we gather up and get ready to go to the next location spot that I wanted to shoot her at. Then I see it.....the clouds all of the sudden got really dark and now lightning had started. Mother Nature played a trick on me today! First it was just plain hot, then it got cooler with light clouds in the sky, and now it's storming with thunder and lightning with huge rain drops. I had to call it a night for the photo shoot. No way am I taking shots with laying on the ground and my butt in the air holding my expensive camera that has a metal bracket on the top of it. Plus, my client really wanted some awesome water shots and I didn't want her in the water with it being cold outside and nasty cloudy (even if it didn't rain). So we rescheduled.

Hopefully Mother Nature will be kind to us during our next shoot.

Chillin - {Emmett, Idaho Photographer}

My dog Micki is a character. All dogs seem to have their own "personality" and Micki definitely has some "personality". Whenever NCIS comes on, we tease the heck out of him and put the show on 2 TV's; one upstairs and one downstairs (the stairs aren't steep....only 7 or 8 steps). Micki goes completely nutso when the theme song is played; he'll run and literally dive over the stairs from one TV to the next. We tease him and mute one TV when he gets near it just so he hears the theme music on the other TV and run to it...then of course we mute that one and he'll run to the other TV that's now not muted and blaring the theme music. It's hilarious to watch! This is just one of the MANY things my dog does that makes him such a fun character to be around. He certainly is entertaining!

Now to my reason for posting. I caught Micki in a rare form; chilling out. Yes, it's something that he does each and every night, but keep reading and you'll understand why it's a rarity that I captured this moment. See, every time that I have tried to capture him laying down being calm he then gets all excited and thinks that it's time to play and will get his ball and throw it at me (yes, he throws his ball at me from his mouth LOL) or will basically gently attack me and want to wrestle and lick my camera. Well, this one night I guess he was just plain pooped out and didn't want to budge for anything. I slowly grab my camera and lay down on the floor, focus and capture this rarity.

Spring has FINALLY sprung here in Emmett (Mother Nature is a bit late this year) so I did some "spring cleaning" around the home and decided to spruce up the blog while I was in a fun and spirited mood. Now some may be wondering what I meant by stating that Spring has finally sprung. See, the weather out here in Emmett has been REALLY strange for the past couple of months. We had rain and hail off and on throughout April and May with maybe 1 or 2 days of sunshine during those two months. It's June now and it didn't start getting sunny til last week. Seriously, Mother Nature either skipped over us this year or did this on purpose so our lawns get some much needed watering.

Meet Baby Sophia - {Emmett Idaho Newborn Photographer}

Meet Baby Sophia. She is the most beautiful little girl with the biggest blue eyes. She was wide awake when I arrived and was not fussy at all with a camera in her face, in fact she loved it so much that she didn't want to go to sleep (but finally did).

Watch out future boyfriends of Sophia's.....you'll not only have to go through her Daddy, but you'll have to go through her two brothers too!

FINISHED!!! "All is Vanity" Counted Cross-Stitch Project is completed - { Emmett Idaho Photographer }

You may remember my last blog post on one of my projects that I was working on called "All Is Vanity". Well, it's FINALLY done!!!! It only took me about 8 months to finish. Some may think that's a long time, but really it's not. I didn't work on it 24/7, there were a few times that I was so busy that I didn't work on it for 3 weeks and other times where I could only get in 2-3 hours at a time. All Is Vanity was a very tedious project, but very much worth it!! I want to do it again, but not for while....and next time I'll do it on black canvas (which actually will make it ALOT harder to do, but I love challenges).

I still haven't found the box of my started projects and I am keeping to my promise to myself to only do one cross-stitching project at a time. Notice how I wrote "cross-stitching project".....in between working on cross-stitching, I am also working on a few jewelry pieces and some newborn crochet hats. I'll post those projects later ;)

"All Is Vanity" Counted Cross Stitch Project - { Emmett Idaho Photographer }

I learned how to cross-stitch from my best friend's sister, Reina many many many years ago. I think I was about 10 years old at the time (so that's over 20 years ago) and she was cross-stitching something for her Mom and I wanted to know how she did it. Well, she showed me and I've loved it ever since. Over the years I've created blankets for friends and family and wall hangings of various art pieces and still haven't stopped. My problem? I have so many of these projects ongoing that when I moved to Idaho, I put them all in a box and that box ended up in storage but now I can't seem to find that box. ARGH!! So now I've started over, purchased a few pieces but this time I am only doing 1 project at a time (at least that's what I tell myself~LOL).

I don't know what it is about cross-stitching but it's something that I turn to it to destress from a hard day. It's something that seems to melt away and push all the problems stirring in my head down deep in order for me to concentrate on this piece of art that I'm creating. Yes, I follow a pattern so I'm not creating an art piece out of thin air, but watching the art come to life from a blank canvas by following the meticulous pattern is just something that I absolutely love to see. It's something that I created. And it's beautiful!

Since I have somehow misplaced my projects somewhere in storage, I went searching for new patterns. I came across a website called Scarlet Quince that produces cross stitch patterns of beautiful, famous art pieces. I came across the All Is Vanity art piece and immediately thought of a great friend of mine that loves skulls. I knew that she'd love the artistic aspect of this piece and would hang it in her home with pride.

Here's the progression of this art piece as I cross stitched it over the past few months ~ photos taken with my cell phone camera so please don't judge the quality of the photos ;)

This is what the piece will look like completed. Notice how you'll see that it looks like a skull, but when you look at it closely, then it's a woman with her reflection in a vanity mirror. That's why it's titled All Is Vanity.

By the beginning of December 2009, I had finally almost finished the 1st row (there's 5 rows total)

Towards the middle of December I had finally finished the 1st row and began on the 2nd row (bottom left image). Now the details are starting to come to life. You can see the progression of the 2nd row at the bottom of the image below and then the finished 1st and 2nd row on the top image. Can you see that it's a woman with her hair up in a bun on the left side and then you see the front of her on the right side? Can you see it? This progression took me some time. I finished the top 2 rows on 2/8/10.

Now I really was looking forward to finishing this project. The top row was a bit boring, I admit it, but then the 2nd row really reeled me in and I found myself pushing to get more and more completed. By March 1st I had finished about 1/3 of the 3rd row and by March 20th, I had completed the top 3 rows. Now you can really see the woman and her reflection with the vanity top and mirror and her reflection plus the bottles that make up the teeth in the skull.

You would think that this would be an easy piece to complete. It looks like it's just alot of black and white with some subtle grays here and there. OH NO!!!! There's black mixed with dark gray, there's black mixed with medium gray, there's dark gray mixed with medium gray, there's dark gray mixed with medium dark gray, and so forth. It's a very difficult piece to do and takes ALOT of patience and attention to details to follow the pattern precisely. If you happen to purchase this from Scarlet Quince I recommend that you purchase the large pattern...trust me, it will help tremendously on following the pattern.

I'm almost done with this art piece and have a few other projects lined up; including a couple pieces for my best friend Janet. One of the projects that I was working on before I moved was for her and now I have to start all over, but she's worth it ~ after all, she's my best friend ;)

I'm aiming for the end of April to have this project completed. Once it is finished, I will post again on the completed piece.

Spring is here!!! - { Idaho Photographer }

Helllooooo Spring!! Flowers are blooming up everywhere. I absolutely love it! Had to go to the store today and when I walked out to the car I noticed that there are blooms everywhere in my yard. Now, I'm not a gardner and will never proclaim to be. Actually I'm the quite opposite...seriously, when I say that I have a black thumb I mean it. I actually have managed to even kill silk plants; that's how much of a black thumb that I have. Anyways, back to the subject. When I came back from my errands the sun was casting some bad shadows over the blooms so I didn't try to capture them yet. Waiting and waiting a few hours and finally the shadows are gone, so I grabbed my mat and laid them down in the grass and dirt and I shot away.

Like I wrote before, I am definitely no gardner so my floral name knowledge is minimal. I'm hoping that someone can tell me what these beautiful flowers are.

I'm guessing these are tulips? (yep...these are definitely tulips)

I'm guessing this is a dandelion? (nope, not a dandelion...a daffodil - well I was close, it started with a "d" LOL)

I have absolutely no idea what these maroon flowers are. They don't seem to bloom too much; but who knows, I probably caught them at an early stage. (I was right, I caught them at an early stage. These are in the beginning stages of peonies)

I'm kind of partial to this flower because it is my absolute favorite color...PURPLE! I thought it was a tulip but was told that it's a spring crocus. Okie dokie....I don't care what it's called, I like it!

This is the last of the flowers blooming in my front yard. What the heck are these weird blueish purplish cone things? LOL I've never seen these before, they are very interesting and they are growing all over my yard. (found out these are called Grape Hyacinth...they are so pretty!)

Bring on the hail! - {Emmett, Idaho Photographer}

It was such a nice day til a few clouds decided to come in and ruin it. These clouds not only brought in the colder air, but it also brought in hail for a few minutes.

Hail friggen hurts!!! They looked small enough to not hurt so I grabbed my camera and went outside to capture the hail hitting my back porch. OUCH!!!! I was getting impailed...I can only imagine what they'd feel like if they were bigger. I should have known better seeing that they were literally bouncing back up once they hit the porch. True to Barbara style, I gotta learn the hard way. LOL So I cowardly went back inside and laid down on my kitchen floor and decided to catch the hail in the comfort of my home where I wouldn't be pounded to death.

The hail only lasted a couple of minutes, then the clouds separated and it was back to the beautiful day that had started. Crazy weather here in Emmett in March. LOVE IT!!!!

My dog Micky - {Emmett, Idaho Photographer}

Forgive me...these were shot a couple days ago and I'm just now getting around to uploading them.

My dog Micky. What can I say about him? He's such a lovable and kind and high spirited dog. Just like most dogs, he LOVES the car rides, the dog treats and bones, and of course loves when company comes over.

Micky is just fun to watch. Most days he is more entertaining to watch than TV. I swear that he's memorized commercials. Seriously! He will attack any commercial that has an animal in it, not just dogs but ANY animal. He goes nuts during the Mucinex commercials...ya of all commercials he doesn't like the green boogers LOL. He growls like crazy during the ADT commercials, I guess he thinks that the bad guys are going to jump through the TV and attack us. I have never seen a dog stretch as much as he does. And it's not just a quick stretch, he reaches out so far and stretches so big and long. Sometimes he'll stretch just like the yoga pose "downward dog" and then just plop his butt down. Too funny. He attacks my slippers all the time (well, they are doggie slippers so I guess I'll give him that one...but it's still entertaining). Watching him play with his bones are just as funny to watch too. No matter how big or small or chewed down his rawhide bones are, he'll fling them everywhere. So you gotta watch out when he's in his playful mood because you just might end up with a rawhide being thrown in your face.

I was sitting outside one day on my back porch just shooting away at the birds enjoying their fresh bird seed that I put out for them when Micky decided to join me. I was surprised that he didn't try to go play with the birds; as he usually does, but this time he just wanted to sit with me and enjoy a nice crisp day.

After a bit I decided to take a drive around town to find more hot spots for my photography. WOW...I LOVE this town!! So many beautiful, old, rustic places....can't wait for spring to get here and start shooting my clients at these locations!!! Of course I had to take Micky with me while out on the town. But here's the story...he is afraid of the lens glare. I tried to turn and get a few shots in of him sticking his head out the window but he'd jump back in as soon as he saw the lens glare. I was just about to give up shooting him while enjoying his car ride when I saw it! I was shooting something that was coming up to my path when I saw Micky pop his head out in the side passenger mirror. I took aim at the mirror and he snuck back in. Grrrrrr. I give up, put the sunglasses back on and just watch where the places were that I was being led to. I decided to try once more with Micky but this time using the live mode on my camera and he didn't know any better. Going against all the rules of photography, I took aim at the outside passenger mirror (which was extremely dirty), and tried to focus through my sunglasses and the sun glaring and caught it! It's a dirty and unfocused shot, but I love it!

Brrrrr, it's cold! - { Idaho Photographer }

It is just downright cold outside here in Idaho. I'm in Emmett right now and it's in the 20's. I've given in already and started a fire in the fireplace; normally doesn't happen til 5pm, but it's cold right now!

I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Nicole Cassity and her family once again in December 2009. You may remember Nicole and her family from last year here capturing her family before her surgery. Since then Nicole has been fighting like a girl battling through and not letting anything get in her way. She's such an inspiration...check out her Fight Like A Girl Blog and be in awe of her too.

The day of the family shoot was such a beautiful day. It wasn't sunny outdoors, but there was such great sunshine radiating from Nicole, Brock, and Morgan. The goal was to capture the family at its best, being a family and using these captures for their Christmas Card. We shot a few indoor shots (absolute blast!), and then braved the cold and bundled up and headed out into the snow. Yes, it was snowing outside the entire day but that didn't stop the Cassity Family from having a great time.

Morgan is such an inquisitive little girl. She wanted to know what was making Santa move and sing...

I've been MIA for the past couple of months. I know I'm not the best at keeping up this blog and plan to change that now!

I had my first Christmas living in Idaho and didn't get to experience a "White Christmas", we had a good snowfall a few days earlier and still had some snow that hadn't melted by Christmas. So to me I still had a White Christmas. My son let me sleep in (til 8:30am; believe me, that's sleeping in for him) and let me really wake up and make breakfast for myself (he didn't like my bagels, lox, and cream cheese so I just made breakfast for myself), and then we dove into all the presents. My son is so cute with his gifts to me...he doesn't care if it fits or not but as long as it's purple then it's what he is getting me. He knows my favorite color is purple, so the size 11 slippers in purple were the perfect choice in his eyes (even though I wear size 9). I don't have the heart to tell him that they don't fit, so my Mom told me where she took him to get them and has the receipt for me to get the exchange. So now I have slippers that fit and he smiles when he sees me wearing them.

I hope that everyone has had a wonderful holiday season with your family and friends and had some of the most memorable memories.

Fight Like A Girl Nicole Cassity!!!

Meet Nicole Cassity. August 18, 2009 Nicole Lindemann Cassity was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. At the very young age of 23, Nicole will be undergoing a double mastectomy. Even with this drastic measure she will always live with the fear of reoccurrence.

Nicole is an amazing young woman. She is the mother of Morgan, a beautiful, bright-eyed one year old. She is the wife to Brock Cassity, a caring and compassionate husband. Sister to Jessica & Michelle. A loving daughter and friend.

Her surgery was on October 1, 2009 and her surgery was successful. She was able to go home to recouperate within a couple of days. Despite having major surgery, she was in high spirits the following Monday night when I went over to her home to #1 see how she was doing and #2 to show her proofs of the photo shoot we took the week before. The goal was to have some great recent shots for her to have and show at the benefit in her honor on October 9th.

On October 9th, the community of Marsing, Idaho dedicated their love, time & money to help Nicole with the financial burden of breast cancer. It is their sincere wish that Nicole has the opportunity to heal physically and emotionally without the additional worries of endless medical expenses. It's raining, it's pouring

This weather is just absolutely crazy. It was so windy last night that when I took my dog outside this morning to go to the bathroom, our backyard had some extra things strewn around. I guess the wind picked things up from the neighbors yards and plopped them in ours. The fall leaves that just turned colors are now all on the ground thanks to the wind - time to go out and rake it all up. Hmmm, wonder if I can find a kid wanting to play in a pile of leaves. LOL The only thing we are missing from our yard is one of our bird feeders, so no biggie for us personally.
It rained, but nothing too hard. My son is patiently waiting for the snow to hit. I am too - can't wait for the first flurries to come trickling down.

TV Shows

I am mad that some of the shows that I was into last year are no longer. But.....at least there are a bunch of new shows that are recently premiering and seem pretty good and replace the "void".
PHEW....Grey's Anatomy is still around and I can't wait to see it in a couple of days.
Watching this new show now called "The Forgotten" and it seems pretty good. But of course I'm biased big time being a huge Christian Slater fan (I'm such an 80's girl at heart). But even thru the fantasy of Christian, it really is a good show.
